Vermin Control

Rats in Drains & Sewers

The Brown Rat, or Sewer Rat is an invasive species of rodent that arrived to Ireland and the UK in the 1700's. Since then they have thrived and there is now a dense population in both urban and rural settings.

Drains & Sewers have proven to become a natural highway for them to travel, mate, breed and feed. They feed on food waste and human waste that is in the wastewater as well using defects in pipes and chambers to create burrows and nests.

Rats will pinpoint gaps, holes and defects in your drainage system and exploit it to create themselves a nice home that provides warmth, safety with a constant source of food and water nearby.

Dunboyne Enviro use a wide range of pipe and drain surveying technologies to inspect the drainage system of your home or business to find weaknesses that could be exploited by our furry friends. We will then design a  comprehensive plan to repair and remedy any damage as well as creating a physical barrier to stop them entering your drain system from the main or shared sewer.

Dead Connections

Dead pipes are one of the most common points of entry for a rat to get into your premises. An old pipe that was once in service and that is now out of service creates a warm, dry area for rats to burrow in peace. They will go to the end of the pipe and begin to burrow outwards eventually finding their way into your home or business.

Identifying dead pipes can be done using CCTV Inpestion coupled with deductive testing. Eliminating what pipes are in service via dye testing and running water.

When the dead pipes are identified, depending on the access to the mouth of the pipe, they can be sealed off using Mechanical Plugs, Ratblock Bags or Cured in Place Liners to block connections to the sewer.

The Ratflap

The Ratflap is a device that can be installed into a Drain or Pipe to allow wastewater flow freely away from your premises, while stopping vermin coming the other direction towards your property.

There are multiple different brands and designs of this device and we use the world leading Ratflap, which is manufactured in Ireland using the highest quality Stainless Steel.

The incredible quality ensures long lasting protection from rodents, and guarantees a long life for the flap, wihtout it accumulating grease and other deposits during its service.

All our installations come with a warranty to give you peace of mind that if they cause a blockage, we will cover the cost of the job of unblocking the sewer or drain. With our expertise of installing them correctly, we can assure there will be no blockages and no rats.

Chamber Rehabilitation

Rats are some of the best Drain Surveyors in the business! They can find the smallest defects in an Access Juntion, Chamber or Manhole and they will then use their incredible digging finesse to burrow out of the chamebr into the surrounding soil.

They can burrow tens of metres from an access if left alone for long enough, eventually finding their way into your property.

The result is the soil and stone is burrowed back into the drain causing extensive deposits, resulting in bad blockages.

es-co have a number of methods to fully rehabilitate access points such as AJ's and Manholes to stop rats exploiting any such defects.
